| Once upon a time in a land so
beautiful it invades our dreams, groups of ferrets frolicked and played. The land has green rolling
hills and flower speckled meadows. There are majestic violet mountains and briskly bubbling brooks.
In the distance a small white ferret can be seen furiously chasing day glow butterflies and a John
Deere tractor winds its way thru a grove of huge raisin trees. Every day a perfect rainbow hangs
in the always bright and clear sky. But today, something is different. Not wrong different, just
different. Shhhh shhhh a small dainty sable ferret said. I am trying to hear. Something special is going on. Cant you feel it? “Feel what Queen Jubilee?” asked Jack A Bear. I don’t feel anything. How about you Holly? Do you feel anything different? No, Jack A Bear, but I sure do see something. Look Cally, up at the sky!! All the clouds have silver lining around them. Oh my, Snow and Princess declared. Just look. Everything is pink and gold and it all glows!!! Sir Lancelot stuck his nose up in the air. He sniffed and sniffed and then he ran up to Queen Jubilee. You better send someone to get Ping and Pong and Jubilee Spirit. Someone very sweet is on the way and I am sure Da Wolfy would want them to be here to greet her. Jubilee quickly sent off BigFun and Pepsi, her best messengers. Those boys just loved to run. Course they could take a long time if they started to tumble, so Queen Jubilee sent NobleMan after them to keep them focused on their job. All of a sudden Jack A Bear stiffened. His nose quivered and then he started to tremble all over. A bright silver tear formed and slowly trickled past the smile that was dawning on his face. It’s my Angel Girl he whispered. “What?” asked RinkyDink and Frolic. My Angel Girl, My Angel Girl! “It’s my Angel Girl!” Jack A Bear shouted and then he began to dance. He danced faster and faster and soon he was dancing wildly about in his joy. Just then a bright beam of light illuminated the colorful curve of the rainbow. Delicately dancing upon the rainbow was a small sable ferret. She was ever so graceful and she had wings etched in silver. She was healthy and strong and she was beautiful as a crystal clear night trimmed in stars. Suddenly a huge firefly flew directly towards the tiny dancing ferret. Everyone held their breath, sure that Angel Girl was about to get knocked clean off the Rainbow Bridge. The firefly stopped right at the tip of Angel Girl’s nose. “What do you think you are doing Blaze?” NobleMan shouted in his most gruff, stern voice. It was so stern all the day glow butterflies scattered in every direction. Why, Just look at her NobleMan. She has obviously requested to be a firefly like me. Her nose is all lit up and beaming silver. You could guide a ship thru shoals with that beam of light. Quietly the little ferret started to giggle. Oh Blaze, you are so silly. This is a different kind of light. Suddenly serious, Angel Girl started to explain. You see, I knew I was coming here. Part of me was happy because I would be young and healthy and could see all of my old buddies again. But I was sad too. my humans loved me very much. My Daddy tried to hold me but I could not bear it. I knew I would miss him so and if he held me, both of our hearts would break into a zillion pieces. But I just couldn’t leave without getting some last kisses. Enough to last me forever. My Momma knew just what to do. She always knows just what to do. She bundled me up in a nice warm blankie and snuggled me on her chest. Every time I needed a kiss I just had to poke my little nose out. And oh…….., those kisses!! They were so full of tenderness and love. They tasted of the joy we had spent together and the sadness of our parting. Those kisses were my world and they made me feel so warm inside. All aglow. I got so full of glow it leaked!! But that was the Maker’s plan all along. See He knows everything. He knows that even though everything is perfect up here, we don’t have our human’s kisses anymore and that makes us sad in a place where only joy should be. So He made a sign just for us ferrets. Kind of like the Rainbow he made for the humans. Every time a human sees a rainbow they are reminded of the Promise He made to them. Every time a ferret sees my glowing nose they will remember the kisses they received on their own nose and know that they will feel those precious kisses again. When one of you remembers those kisses, your human will know in his spirit and a smile will bloom even as a tear falls. All of the ferrets sat entranced in the meadow. Each lost in thoughts of his or her human and the many wonderful kisses that colored and bounded their world. And on Earth? A sea of human faces, gazing inward toward a land that was so beautiful it invaded their dreams. Each face, was etched with a single silver tear slowly meandering its way towards a sad silly little smile.
